This is what happens when you give a 13 year old kid a Sony Walkman to compare against his iPod.

It took me three days to figure out that there was another side to the tape. That was not the only naive mistake that I made; I mistook the metal/normal switch on the Walkman for a genre-specific equaliser, but later I discovered that it was in fact used to switch between two different types of cassette.

BBC invited 13 year old Scott Campbell to trade in his iPod for Sony Walkman for 1 week.

Just saw this on TV a few minutes ago while working from home.

Leo Laporte got a Palm Pre to review and got pretty mad when Mike Arrington from TechCrunch implied that his review was biased since the unit was given to Laporte for free. He shortly kicked all the web cam participants off the June 6th Gillmor Gang show and ended the show right after.

Some unfortunate news for dirt track racers around New Mexico. The Hollywood Hills Speedway has closed due to unsafe conditions at the facility.

Officials met in Phoenix, AZ to discuss the future of the speedway as it was revealed that the facility would be closing due to unsafe conditions of the masonry structures at the track. The main entrance and concession building have been deemed unsafe by engineers in an inspection prompted by track and casino officials. This building will be shut down immediately and temporary ticket locations will be established in order to proceed with the final 2 races at Hollywood Hills.

“The closing is unfortunate as it seems that great things were beginning to happen at the speedway” commented Ron Brown of Casino Hollywood “The speedway has some issues and we felt it was too much liability to keep it operating. This is really an unforeseen turn of events and is truly a sad day for Casino Hollywood and the speedway.”

“We had big plans for Hollywood Hills” stated Benji Lyons “We were caught off guard by the news today and feel badly for the racers of New Mexico. We truly wanted to give them a place to call home but this is out of our control. We will work hard to make the last two events at the speedway very special and let Hollywood Hills go out with a bang.”

Apparently that's what went down at the Franklin Correctional Institution in Florida.

It was "Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day" at the Franklin Correctional Institution, and Sgt. Walter Schmidt wanted to give the kids an idea of what their parents do.

So he took out a handheld stun device and zapped them with 50,000 volts of electricity.

The children, whose ages are not available, reportedly yelped in pain, fell to the ground and grabbed red burn marks on their arms. One was taken to a nearby hospital.

DOC spokeswoman Jo Ellyn Rackleff said in an e-mail, "We believe that a number of children may have received a shock."

Schmidt, the arsenal sergeant at the Panhandle prison, said he asked parents for permission to shock the kids.

"When they said 'sure,' I went ahead and did it," he said by phone Friday.

The New Mexico Off Road League presents Off Road Gathering 2009 at the Albuquerque National Dragway on June 6th, 2009. If you attended the 2007, you probably saw my 99 Cherokee out there running the obstacle course. It was a total blast and this one looks like it is aiming up to be even bigger and better!


This years Off Road Gathering is going to be bigger than ever with the return of the Southwest Regional Mudbogs. This years competition will face a new style mud pit called a hill and hole. It promises to be full of action and excitement. Also coming back will be a lot of the usual entertainment including a pit bike freestyle demonstration, Team Outermost stunt bike team, Dumpy monster truck rides for the kids in all of us, New Mexico Trials Riders demonstration, skate and bmx freestyle flatland demonstration, R/C rock crawling competition, live action rock crawling demonstration, show and shine competition for trophies, diesel drag heads up competition, and also diesel burnout contest.
